Green Credits Highlighted in Oral Arguments on Sale of Point Beach

Madison, WI - In an unusual move the Public Service Commission last week called for oral arguments by counsel for the parties in the Point Beach nuclear power plant docket.  The commissioners’ questions covered economic, environmental, and legal aspects of We Energies’ proposed sale to a subsidiary of Florida Power and Light (FPL).  
   
E4 Educates Brookfield Rotary

Brookfield, WI- The Brookfield Rotary Club hosted E4 to speak Tuesday on the topic of “Strengthening the Economy and Improving the Environment with Energy Efficiency.” E4’s speaker, Steve Heins, emphasized the need for business and industry to take up the cause of energy efficiency because those sectors have the greatest potential to benefit from the economic advantages of energy efficiency and have the capability to greatly reduce emissions if they upgrade to cleaner, more efficient energy practices. The meeting was held in Elm Grove.

Kathryn Sachs Op-Ed article on Point Beach

In a recent Op-Ed article, Kathryn Sachs discusses the financial impact of the sale of the Point Beach Nuclear plant. Because the nuclear plant is a zero emission asset, WE Energies will give up 50% of the rights to any green credits that might be attributable to this zero-emissions power source in the future. According to calculations by E4, those credits could amount to an annual dollar value from $24 million to $242 million.
